This case study will non only high uplight Apples strengths, it will also discuss its weaknesses and past failures that clai m laid the nucleotide to become one the most powerful companies in the world. As the story famously goes, two Steves started one of the biggest computer companies ever in a store after quitting their day jobs. Steve Jobs work outed at Atari, a computer and gaming company and Steve Woz Wozniak worked at Hewlett-Packard. A fri abate introduced the two seeing their mutual interest in electronics. Woz had built a computer in his spare time as a hobby. According to Charles Hill and Gareth Jones (2012), authors of Essentials of Strategic Management, That is what people did in 1976, (p. C13). Jobs realized that people might want to buy such a machine and persuaded Woz to set up a company to make for and market it.Headquarters Jobs garage in California. Thus Apple Computers was born. A total of 200 units were sold at a price of $666 severally the product rolled out on April bucks Day in 1976 at a local electronics store. The company went on to see great achievementes and any(prenomi nal) failures, and the two Steves are heralded as revolutionizing the personal computer industry. After improving on the garage computer, named Apple I, with better graphics, more data storage and a simpler looking machine, Apple introduced the Apple II in 1977.This personal computer that was user friendly to non-computer using consumers soon made the two twenty somethings into one million millionaires. Throughout the years, subsequent models that improved on the speed and design of the Apple II were released. With these improvements came additional products software, external drives and printers, to name a few. By 1983, the Apple IIe was introduced, which would become Apples most fashionable and best-selling of all models. In the 80s and 90s, Apple computers became computing standard for elementary schools.By the time the Apple II course of action became defunct, more than 2 million Apple IIs had been sold and home computers were gaining popularity. Apple Computers also changed its name simply to Apple to reflect its diversity of products. During this general timeframe, Woz was piloting a plane that stalled and crashed he suffered some memory loss. He returned to Apple sporadically throughout the ensuing years but formally ended his full-time association with the company in 1987. Two brand- bran-new engineers were brought on board for two new project ideas Jeff Raskin for the Macintosh computer model and Bill Atkinson for the more care-oriented Lisa computer. The Macintosh became a success the Lisa did not. In 1991 Apple continued to build on its lay outers guiding principlethat the individual, not the mainframe, should be at the center of the computing universe (Silicon Valley, 2012). The company introduced a portable Mac, which was the predecessor of the modern lap conduct. In 1993 it launched the Newton, a personal digital assistant which let consumers compute without sitting at a desk. The end of the mid-nineties brought yet another breakthrough Appl e computerthe iMac, which touted power, ease of use and esthetics. The iPod, a digital melody player and the iPhone, a phone with earnings capabilities, are two of Apples newest immensely popular products. Steve Jobs died of cancer in October of 2011 after working and leading on and off at Apple throughout the years Woz is 62 and currently spends his time as a writer, speaker, researcher and philanthropist. Tim Cook is the current CEO of Apple. On August 20, Apple officially became the most valuable company in history in terms of market capitalization (Forbes, 2012).Heading into the final hour of trading on the NASDAQ, the well-worn had risen more than two percent, giving the company a market cap of over $620 billion with shared trading over $662 apiece. The reason hypothesis over its newest product releasethe iPhone 5. Identification of the companys indwelling strengths and weaknesses Strengths Product development. Doesnt invent the market, but its products set high standards f or the market Design and utility. Sleek, not clunky. For instance, the desktop computer is part of the screen, not a separate box with wires the iPhone has very few buttons and feels nice in the hand.Products are easy to use, almost transcendental Marketing. Clever and takes advantages of peoples frustrations with other hardware Brand name Globally recognized Rapid growth and high profits Pioneer of innovative and high-tech character reference products such as iPod, iPhone and iPad Strong Research Development department (9% of sales devoted to RD) Having the control of both its own hardware and software Having had a visionary, attractive and innovative CEO like Steve Jobs Apple retail store experience allowing customers to use and experience Apples products Having a large segment of allegiant customers Sales of add-on products Highlighting of its products as the worlds greenest line-up of note holdsWeaknesses Very proprietary and controlling. Wont open the operating syst em to outsiders to develop hardware to work with the products, keeping hardware sales to itself. While this keeps design control inside and up to standards, it has hurt wide adaptation of its hardware, especially computers, where it has a relatively lesser market share. Apple has veto power over Apps sold The death of Steve Jobs and the absence of his drawing cardship will be a weakness for Apple as they find ways to match his innovation Not shareholder-friendly.Has abused option granting in the past and refuses to pay a dividend despite a grand (and growing) money level, no debt, and plentiful free cash flow The battery life of the products are seen as weak Failure of two products First Apple TV launch and Mac Mini Decision to restrict the iPhone to a single network The lack of QWERTY keyboard in products like iPad and iPhone Low market share in comparison with HP, Dell, Acer, Lenova and Toshiba Apple products are highly priced, so it is hard to suit their target market Op portunities Loyal customer base which has expanded beyond the Mac-heads of the 1990s with the iPod and the iPhone. The iPad has had a very successful launch. This seems to be leading to more sales of computers. Has a well-deserved reputation for high-quality products that work smoothly. New products are generally well-received and have a built in purchasing base. Move into other computer or media product spaces that are not served well. Can continue to design the standard-setter for those spaces. A new version of Apple TV could take advantage of todays more highly developed Web. Threats Big ideas are easy to copy. Microsoft copied the graphical user interface, and even Linux has a version. The touchscreen interface is being used in other phones (e. g. mechanical man). Apps are being developed for other smart phones and devices. High-priced products. Apple priced itself out of the personal computer market, and that waits a problem. Other smartphones that look and behave similarly to the iPhone are less expensive. Google is moving into Apples smartphone space by giving away the operating system, and it has announced that it will also be moving into the TV space. Both companies are well-funded, so any battle between the two could be long and ugly. spirit of external environment surrounding the company The industry grows and changes at an alarming pace. Every day there are new products that flood the market. New engine room changes cell phones, laptops and new products are advertised every week. The major companies in the industry are Apple, Acer, Dell, and Hewlett Packard. In order for new companies to break into this market, they need to have a high entry barrier as well as a differentiated strategy from the existing companies. There is also a high learning curve with the customers getting accustomed to the new products. The existing brand names make the entry barrier very difficult to break into. Apple seems to be financially stable and healthy with weaknesses and threats that Apple has overcome and conquered in its past. The strengths show Apples foundation built upon a long line of unique products and branding, powerful research and development along with commanding marketing gurus that make Apple the powerhouse it has become today. Financially, the financial papers seem to be responsible and accountable with much thought put into Apples strategy. According to YCharts (June 30, 2012), Apples current ratio is 1. 71, which is slightly above book look upon. When you have a current ratio of 1, it means that your current assets are exactly the same as your current liabilities. The current ratio measures a companys readiness to pay short-term debts and other current liabilities by comparing current assets to current liabilities (YCharts, 2007-2012, para. 1). Apples gross profit margin (sales-cost of goods sold/revenue) is 42. 81%, gross profit margin represents the percentage of each dollar of a companys revenue that is available to cover fi xed costs after paying for the goods or services that were sold. With Apple seizing new opportunities every day, Apple will continue to dominate its markets for a long time to come and will remain fiscally responsible while continuing to make large profits, making it a wise decision to invest in the Apple organization. SWOT digest It cannot be debated that Apple has many strengths. They should not, however, become complacent with their success and in order to maintain its competitive advantage, the company must constantly evaluate their internal and external operations and address its weaknesses and threats, as well as assess its strengths and use them appropriately. One of Apples current strengths is its brand recognition and quick brand image. Apple has effectively used this strength through product development. As Apple took the market by storm and was gaining momentum, it expanded its product crack. With each new product such as the iPhone and the iPad, consumers expected the s ame quality and ease of use as Apples preceding products as they had already established that position in the consumer mind. Apple also has an enviable position in the market place and in the minds of the financial world.Apples chesty financial performance is strength as the growth in capital allows for continued growth. While reviewing the strengths, one must also consider the weaknesses. For example, Apples weaknesses can be demonstrated with the release of the iPhone 4 and the concerns over the antenna on the product and how it could affect the performance of the device. Product recalls can result in a damaged image and reputation which will affect sales. Recalls also result in warranty and other expenses. It is clear that Apple views the iPhone as a major prospect. The iPhone leads the company in percentage of sales, and with he new release of the 4s, combined with additional service providers supporting the device, will continue to do so. The expanding launching pad market an d demand for mobile technology also makes the iPad market a big opportunity for Apple. Expanding in international markets is also a big opportunity for Apple. Despite its strengths and opportunities, Apple faces many threats. One major threat to the companys iPhone growth is the rising popularity of Googles Android. Critics and users alike have stated that the Android is comparable, if not superior, to the iPhone technology. This fierce competitor is sure to affect Apples market share. In conclusion, an overview of Apples SWOT allows us to break downwards current strengths, as well as weaknesses, opportunities and threats. This allows us to further analyze the company as a whole and is imperative when devising a incarnate strategy. The kind of corporate level strategy the company is pursuing Apples corporate strategy is to focus on making the industries best products. They are a company that focuses on innovation, and also improvements on their existing products. They use the focus ed differentiation strategy, by making products that are exclusive, and fairly expensive. Not everyone can afford an Apple product. They focus on aligning their origin strategy and their marketing strategy with product development. This is something that they do much better than their competitors, and this is a huge advantage for them. Apples target market is people who are willing to pay more for products with better user experience, people who like to have fun with technology, music enthusiasts and people who work with media and design professionals. They have done a good job by finding out which customer needs to satisfy. They have found out that these customers want a nice, beautiful and simple design and user input, and they have focused on programs that help photograph and edit both pictures and videos, as well as good music programs to both listen to and make music. To make these programs, they have to have to focus on innovation, and have programmers and designers that can ma ke programs like thisthat are easy to use, beautiful to look at, and do what you expect them to do. The nature of the companys business-level strategy Apples fundamental business model has not changed since it first began business in the late 1980s.Apples organisational strategy think different is to control the development and design of the hardware and software for all of its products. The company is focused on providing innovative products and solutions to consumers. Apple has a simple strategy of providing customers with the best products and experiences possible. Another strategy is offering exclusiveness of their products to certain providers and companies. This not only builds a strong working relationship, but also builds a strong want by consumers for Apple products. I think the most important strategy is their branding strategy. This includes making new products that supports a digital hub strategy. This is a concept where the products that Apple produces will function as a hub for digital devices such digital cameras, cell phones, etc. Apple focuses on the lifestyle of the customer which includes imagination, hopes, dreams, and many more attributes. They are committed to the customer (Apples branding strategy, 2011). Mission Statement Apple mission statement is as follows, Apple designs Macs, the best personal computers in the world, along with OS X, iLife, iWork, and professional software.Apple leads the digital music revolution with its iPods and iTunes online store. Apple reinvented the mobile phone with its revolutionary iPhone and App Store, and has recently introduced its magical iPad which is defining the future of mobile media and computing devices (Investor relations, 2011). Steve Jobs stated that Apples core value that the company believes, is people with passion can change the world for the better. He stressed that value at its core is something that should neer change despite the world changing around it.The companys structure and cont rol systems and how they match its strategy Apples first product, the Apple I, was vastly different from the Apple products of today. This first handmade computer kit was constructed by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. It lacked a graphic user interface (GUI), and buyers had to add their own keyboard and display. Co-founder Steve Jobs convinced Wozniak that it could be sold as a commercial product. In 1976 the Apple I was unveiled at the Home Brew Computer bludgeon and put on sale for $666. 66. Jobs and Wozniak continued to create innovative products.Soon their new company, Apple Computer Inc. , had surpassed $1 million in sales. However, the mid-1980s saw some difficult times for Apple. In 1983 the company introduced the Apple Lisa for $10,000. The product flopped. In 1985 Steve Jobs was ousted after internal conflicts with the Apple CEO. Its computer products the Mac I and the Newton were not successful, and the company underwent several CEO changes. With declining stock prices, t he future of Apple was in jeopardy. Steve Jobs returned to Apple in 1997 to try and save the struggling company. The return of Jobs introduced a new era for Apple.Jobs immediately began to change the companys corporate culture. Before Jobs return, employees were more open about Apple projects. After he returned, Jobs instituted a closed(a) door policy. Today Apple continues to remain vigilant in protecting its technology and ensuring that information remains proprietary. Jobs also created a more flattened organizational structure rather than go through layers of management to address employees, he addressed them directly. Perhaps one of the most noticeable changes, however, was Apples expanding upon into new product lines within the electronics industry. In 2001 Apple launched the iPoda portable music player that forever changed the music industry. The company also introduced iTunes, a cause of jukebox software that allowed users to upload songs from CDs onto their Macs and then o rganize and manage their personalized song libraries. Two years later Apple introduced the iTunes Store, in which users could download millions of their popular songs for $0. 99 each online. In 2007 Jobs announced that Apple Computer, Inc. would be re-named Apple Inc. This signified that Apple was no longer just a computer manufacturing business but also a driver in consumer electronics. Some saw this as a shift away from computers toward consumer electronics such as Apple TV, iPods, iTunes, iPhones, and iPads. However, it whitethorn be more accurate to say that Apple is reinventing computers. With the introduction of tablet computers such as the iPad, Apple has begun to take market share away from its top competitors in the computer industry. Sales of desktops, laptops, and netbooks began to decline after tablet computers were introduced. Analysts believe that tablet computers will continue to grow at a rapid rate. Apples transition from a computer to a consumer electronics company is unprecedentedand hard to replicate.Although many can only speculate about why Apple succeeded so well, they tend to credit Steve Jobs remarkable leadership abilities, Apples highly skilled employees, and its strong corporate culture. Conclusion Today, Apple continues to lead the industry with their outstanding and award winning products and services. Apple is also credited with leading the digital media revolution with their iPod portable music and video players and iTunes online media store, creating the first sustainable music-downloading business model in history (Gershon, 2009, p. 367).The company has also entered the mobile phone industry with an altogether different business strategy known as value innovation with the iPhone. Value innovation focuses on making the competition irrelevant by opening up new and untapped markets, creating a leap in value for consumers. The iPhone is yet another product that has changed the way the industry defines new product standards and po ssibilities. With growing demand for high-quality, powerful, user-friendly, and cost effective products, Apple is undoubtedly the leader in terms of bringing these ideas to life. The company realizes that rather than publicly announcing product development plans years in advance, products are better received with an awe reply if they are simply released when theyre finished as opposed to providing beta or demo versions to the public. This is an excellent strategy when the goal is to keep consumers eager for the in vogue(p) products and asking, What could they possibly improve next?

For example most children with down(a) syndrome have 47 chromosomes the additional one is 21,also the older a mother is the risk is higher.A baby can also be affected referable to smoking, taking drugs and alcohol consumption. According to the NHS choices your wellness your choice. The alcohol a mother drinks passes from her blood to the placenta and to the baby. A babys perishr is the last organ to develop and does not mature until the last half of pregnancy .Too much exposure to alcohol can really affect the babys development. If you drink in addition much during pregnancy your baby may develop (FAS) foetal alcohol syndrome which presents as restricted reaping, facial sub conventionalityities and learning and behaviour disorders. Good.Illegal drugs use during in pregnancy including cannabis, ecstasy, cocaine and heroin) can have serious effects on your unborn baby. However people who take drugs daily need to seek medical examination advice due to withdrawal problems when stopping any drugs. Also not all natural remedies are safe always seek medical advice.A childs birth experience will have an influence on their development if a baby is premature or does not breathe smashing away their wag may be starved of oxygen which can affect learning in later life.A childs health can be determined by genetic factors for example NHS choices states the blood disorder Sickle cell anaemia can cause a wide range of symptoms though not all people will experience all symptoms which are ,episodes of pain which is the most common and upsetting symptom. A crisis is triggered when the abnormal blood cells block the small blood vessels that supply the bodies tissues, this causes swelling and damage younger children may have swelling of the extends and feet. As a child gets older the most common areas of pain are ribs, spine, pelvis, abdomen, breastbone, long bones in the legs and arms A crisis can occur for no apparent modestness but certain triggers are, changes in body temperature due to illness or environment, dehydration or a explosive lack of oxygen due to sudden exertion or stress. In older children potential triggers are alcohol , cigarettes and illegal drugs. Children with sickle cell anaemia are prone to contagious diseases under the age of 3 because of the abnormal blood cells which disrupt the function of the spleen which filters harmful bacteria and viruses from the blood so these children are vulnerable to pneumonia, osteomyelitis a bone infection and meningitis .Jaundice is another common symptom as are lower leg ulcers, griped growth and priapism in teenage boys.Due to the life threatening conditions it is important to seek medical advice straight away if your childs develo ps any of the above symptoms.Coeliac disease is a common digestive condition where the person has an adverse reaction to gluten eating foods that contain gluten can trigger a range of symptoms such as diarrhoea, bloating and wind, abdominal pain, weight loss, and feeling tired all the time .This disease is known as an autoimmune condition, this is where the bodys defence system against infection mistakenly attacks healthy tissue due to substances constitute inside gluton. This damages the small bowel disrupting the bodys ability to absorb nutrients from food .Why this happens is not clear although a combination of genetic make- up and the environment play a part. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley and rye, which is in pasta, cakes, breakfast cereal, most breads, certain sauces and some ready meals .There is no recuperate for coeliac disease but a gluten free diet may help control the symptoms and prevent long term consequences. Complications may occur if you continue to e at gluten which are osteoporosis and anaemia. The symptoms of receiving set syndrome vary upon the age of the girl or woman affected .Babys born with Turner syndrome often have swell hands and feet which is caused by excess fluid around the tissues. Other symptoms that may develop before birth are thick fuck tissue .swelling of the neck and being a small baby. The 2 most common symptoms are short height and ovaries that do not work properly. Babys with Tuner syndrome usually grow normally until the age of 3yrs, after this they will grow at a slower rate. At puberty there is not the normal growth spurt and on average a woman with this symptom is about 20cm smaller than other women .Ovaries may not function properly which may result in infertility. The appearance is also affected causing, a short wide neck, a broad chest and wide nipples, arms that turn around at the elbows, a low hairline ,mouth and teeth problems, a lot of moles, spoon shaped nails, a short fourth finger or toe. More than 8 out of 10 females will have spatial awareness problems which may cause problems when whimsical of using a map. A similar number struggle with maths this is known as dyscalculia and if teachers are not aware of this it may cause problems. attention deficit disorder may be present in toddlers which may reduce about 12 years old. In some cases medical treatments may not work because of Turner syndrome.Any child who has any learning difficulties should be further to develop to the best of their ability in all areas of learning and development. When working with SEN children you will have advice from other professionals regarding this.External factors.Pupils will come from a range of different background, family, culture, circumstances. Many families will go through a lot of changes in a childs school years some of which the school may not be aware of. These may be divorce, bereavement, illness or moving house or outlandish . Good overview of the external factors that may influence development. Any one of these may affect childrens emotion or intellectual development you may notice a change in the pupil.Poverty and deprivation will have a significant effect on pupil development. Statistics show that children who come from deprived background s are less likely to thrive in school. This could be relative poverty which is proportion of income compared to the average.. It is concerned with material possessions that society deems relevant to daily life. Absolute poverty is the lack of basic human needs such as food, shelter, warmth, sanitation, education and health care. This is quite rare in the UK. Poverty can have an effect on diet, housing and play opportunitiesA balanced diet Is important for children growth. Families on a low income have to buy cheaper foods which are mostly fast food or highly processed, these types of food contain little nutrition value. eat this food can lead to becoming over weight and malnutrition in children which means they may become lethargic unsettled and hyperactive. Diets that lack certain vitamins may cause health conditions for example la ck of Vitamin C may cause scurvy-easy bruising spontaneous bleeding, joint and muscle pain lack of Vitamin D may cause rickets tiredness aches and pains as will lack of calcium, lack of Iron may cause anemia delays in infant motor functions and if present in pregnancy small or early births and fatigue.Poor housing conditions resulting in damp and crowded houses may results in child on set of asthma and no room to play or develop due to lack of exercise. These children need other clubs or groups but due to low income they cannot be provided, this may lead to obesity and delay in physical development. A childs development is strongly influenced by the family around them and parents are the most important educators and source of information in the childcare setting. Most parents will do their best to stimulate and help their children to thrive and grow. But some parents are unable to do this because of ill health or drug abuse or depression .Also stress with in the family through berea vement or divorce can cause anxiety within a child and lead to a major change in their behaviour..As children grow older they will often decide for themselves which club to join and which friends to have. They will be in situations which require their own decisions to be made, they may find themselves under pressure to taste with drugs or alcohol and the decisions they make will affect their behaviour if they choose to abuse drugs such as cannabis as this can affect brain development. Also they now decide what they eat and the wrong choice may result in obesity. A good quality of education from home and school is extremely important to a childs overall development both social and moral. The reasons why childrens development may not come after the expected pattern are personal and external factors as stated above. There are also many other factors which are as followsEmotional, Children grow and learn when their emotional needs are fully met and their development will benefit.Physic al reasons are if a child has difficulties with their growth their fine motor skills and hand eye co-ordination may be affected.Environmental factors are an external factor as stated above.Cultural reasons these are the different values and beliefs according to their country of origin and their religion in some cases boys are treated different from girls ,girls are often viewed as the homemaker and it is not essential for them to complete their education. This can affect their development as they do not receive their statutory education as recommended in the UK. Good point.Social influences and family structure as stated above family structure and lifestyle has an influence on childrens development, divorce or bereavement will cause a child to stress resulting In the child becoming anxious and withdrawn. If parents struggle with a particular area of learning this area may become delayed.Disability may affect development in many ways. Depending on the childs need it may cause a delay in a certain aspect of their development for example a physical disability may affect their social skills and if they become withdrawn this may lead to becoming frustrated also the attitudes and anticipation of others affect the child- if we assume that it is not possible for a disabled person to do something we restrict their opportunity to take part so we restrict their development in all areas. It is important that we look at the needs of the child no on the disability. In my role as TA2 in special needs school we always have to be realistic about the expectations of our children as all our children require extra support but are 100% encouraged to be as independent as is possible. There are no labels in our school only children and their needs.Early intervention is important when delays are pretend so a child may receive the help they require as soon as possible, as this may help the child live a full and successful life as adults. Early years settings play a crucial part in e arly identification of SEN in young children. When a young child attends an early years setting they will be assigned a key worker who will come after and assess the childs development and can quickly identify any possible delays. For example if a child has a language delay which is crucial to learning, as it is linked to our thoughts, which enables us to store information an organised way, they will be at a disadvantage straight away as their thought process will be less able and they may struggle to express themselves .The earlier any delay is detected the sooner other professionals can be sought and advice and plans for support are given. This is important for the child as early years are a time of rapid growth and development.

The Great Pyramid of Egypt
The Great Pyramid of EgyptOverviewThe Great Pyramid of Egypt is deemed as unrivaled of the Worlds Seven Wonders. For more than 43 centuries, the pyramid was ranked as the t every last(predicate)est structure in the earth. But aside from its magnificence what makes it as a true inquire is how these Pharaohs managed such an enormous feat when on that point were no engineers and construction equipment to use. As such this will al panaches remain a mystery but for todays managers in order to create something as grandeur as the Egypts pyramid, it will nevertheless take proper thrust charge skills to successfully political machinery break through a jut out.Nowadays, retchs be ubiquitous. From the simple objective of political campaign to the complicated tasks of launching a rocket, jump out management is used everywhere by everybody. With this, it is considered as the thrust force in most industries for leaders recognize that they atomic number 18 increasingly managing workin g class-driven organization. They recognize that to be successful, they need to be conversant with and use modern project management techniques.Likewise to parti everyy illustrate the importance of such tools, this paper shall discuss different approaches to project planning and control particularly in managing resources. These techniques as well as its benefits and limitations will be presented through the use of two business cases.Case I Bojan Ltd.Bojan Ltd. operates in a rent a car industry that caters to other commercial businesses. To further satisfy its customers, the comp either is in the midst of searching for a supply of its vehicles. As such, the trade union movement Manager (PM) is tasked to precis all the activities addressed to this problem using compute Net execute Diagram (PND), Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) and Critical Path Method (CPM).To bl end off the project, the PM listed 18 activities that must be put to deathed to produce the project deli verables. (See plug-in 1.1) This list also shows the relationship amongst the project activities and the estimated number of work periods that are needed to complete the individual activities.PND was drawn out of these data and was used to determine the start and finish dates of each task and the entire project. meet 1.1 shows the PND including the detailed schedule data for each activity shown in Early Start (ES), Early Finish (EF), Latest Start (LS) and Latest Finish (LF). The plot also presented the critical path wherein the nodes in red represent the critical activities. These activities were identified by subtracting the activitys ES from its LS. If the float is zero then it falls as a critical activity otherwise the activity has a slack wherein it is allowed to be delayed without affecting the projects total duration. In this project there are six non-critical activities (F, G, J, M, P, R) which totals to eighteen days of float. As shown above, the activities A-B-C-D-E-H-I- K-L-N-O-R make up the critical path and by adding the duration of each activity it shows the shortest time in which a project tolerate be completed. For this project adding the entire critical paths duration (1+1+ 4+5+8 +10+10+6+8+10+12+1), it will take 76 days for its fulfillment. For workout if the project will commence on May 3 and assuming that there will be no delays and will be completed using a 5 day working week, the project will be undefiled on its 16th week specifically on the 23rd of August. If in case non-critical activities are delayed, it will not bring about delay for it has a slack. If the delay is equals or less than its slack, it has a time leeway that gage be used without adverse effect on the project time completion. For example a one day interruption occurred during Activity P will have no effect on the projects target end date for only its EF and LS will be affected. (See Table 1.4) This case is also the same if Activity Q is one day delayed and if two day h oldup happened during Activity M. passim the project, PND was applied since time management is often the main source of conflict and using such tool will second PM to tinker with the relationships between tasks and create alternative solutions to increase productivity, profitability, and the diligence of a project. Moreover other than this function, PND also serves four other purposes (Super Business, n.d.).Case II Carr Ltd.Carr Ltd. supplies an array of fitness equipment to divers(a) health and fitness clubs. further the company wants to expand this offering by diversifying its product and market. In this light, the organization will be undertaking a series of activities to launch hydraulic resistance machines to various school gyms. To manage all these tasks, project integration management will be conducted to coordinate all the project elements throughout its lifecycle. jut out 2.1 illustrates the integrations seven main bear ones to ensure the projects completion.Project C harterThe project charter is an announcement that names the new project, the purpose of the project and the PM (Verzuh, 2005, p. 41). Form 2.1 shows the project charter for this specific project.Preliminary Project Scope StatementThe scope statement is a document used to develop and confirm a common understanding of the project scope. As such Form 2.2 describes the work to be accomplished in this project as this will help in preventing project creep the tendency of a project scope to get bigger and bigger (Schwalbe, 2008, p. 149).Project Management PlanThe project management plan provides a snapshot of the whole project as it contains all the necessary data for project execution and control. The plan aims to coordinate and integrate all other project management knowledge area. Moreover it is kept flexible in order to adapt to future project changes. The contents of the projects management plans are as followsProject OverviewThe project overview contains the basic idea of the proje ct. It gives the project management police squad a compact of what should and should not be accomplished at the end of the project.Management and Technical Approach This part of the plan consists of various documents on the ways the project will be run through. As such it is carve up into four parts and these are management objectives, project controls, risk management and project staffing.Management Objectives identifies the top management views, project priorities and constraints. Through this, the team can concentrate on what must be make and can recognize the probable project limits. Form 2.4 shows the projects management objectives.Form 2.4 Management ObjectivesProject Controls describes the observe of the projects progress and its change management. For this project, the team has decided to conduct a weekly status review to ensure that the project is completed on time as well as to handle the change effectively. Moreover every after the progress meeting, a project statu s report is to be filled out and if there will be a need for change, a project change request must be first completed before any change implementation.Risk Management identifies the risks and the ways to manage and control perils that will restrain the projects success. Form 2.7 lists the projects risk management techniques that will allow the team to bring in for the risks and on how to react on them.Project Staffing describes the human resource needs of the project. This document identifies the skills required for this project. As such, Form 2.8 provides a list of the qualifications needed for the project to ensure that it will be completed with highly skilled team members.Scope ManagementThe scope management defines the work required to complete the project. This supports the feeler scope statement for it clarifies and provides more specific details. With this end, a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) is created to define the total scope of the project. Although this does not sho w the tasks dependencies and duration, the WBS provides a basis for planning and managing project schedules, costs, resources and changes (Young, 2007).Project OrganizationThe project organization is represented by the Organizational Breakdown Structure (OBS). An OBS shows the decomposition of the projects responsibilities based on its WBS. Through this, the PM can allocate responsibilities, and to distribute the work fairly and evenly among the team (Young, 2007, p. 132).Project ScheduleThe project schedule provides a summary of the overall project schedule for it gives a baseline date of the projects completion. As such Table 2.2 identifies the project schedule that will be used to quantity the projects progress to ensure the timely finish of the project. The table lists the relationships of each activity, the critical four dates and its critical path that are essential on identifying the projects duration.Project budgetThe project budget consists of project estimate and project budget wherein project estimate is the approximate cost of the resources needed to complete a project enchantment project budget involves allocating the overall cost estimate to individual work items to establish a baseline for measuring performance. For this project in estimating its total cost, bottom-up estimate was done. Bottom-up estimate which is often called Activity Based Costing involves on estimating individual work items and summing them to get a project total (Schwalbe, 2008, p. 274). In this project, labor cost, production of promotional tools and the school presentation consume most of the budget. Form 2.9 provides a summary of the projects estimated cost.Project ExecutionProject execution is the stagecoach of performing the actual work as approved in the plan. This phase probably takes 90 percent or more of the projects effort. As such, the activities identified on the WBS are now be implemented to produce the project deliverables (Verzuh, 2005, p. 38). (Refer Figu re 2.2 for the projects WBS)Consequently this point of project lifecycle involves on managing and performing the work expound in the project management plan and so as to ensure that the project will be undertaken accordingly, the PM must perform these three tasks coordinate planning and execution Providing strong leadership and a supportive culture and Capitalizing on product, business and application area knowledge.Project Monitoring and ControllingProject monitoring and controlling involves collecting, measuring and disseminating performance information. In this stage project status reports play a pivotal role wherein all the activities are organism tracked to metre the overall health of the project. Seven criteria are used for effective tracking and these are Work (is it to estimates (both time and cost)? Measurement (is everyone clear how to measure progress?) Timescales (are work plans being completed on schedule?) Quality (are standards being met in accordance with specific ations?) Teamwork (are responsibilities being adhered to?) Changes (are problem-solving tools being used effectively?) Stakeholders (are they being kept informed, consulted and involved?) (Young, 2007, p.211).In addition to this, since scope, schedule and cost comprise the success criteria for the project, these three are the primary focus on monitoring the projects progress. Table 2.4 lists various methods on monitoring these factors. The purpose of tracking the projects progress is to ensure that the team always have the information to make an accurate assessment of what has happened and comparability it with what should have happen according to the plan. Through this comparison, the team can take corrective actions to such variance. For example, it was identified that the project is lagging behind, specifically in doing the trade plan due to conflicting ideas. As such, various proposals were raised and one of these is to work overtime. With this corrective action, the impending effect on project schedule was countered. Figure 2.3 summarizes the monitoring and controlling system for this project.Integrated Change ControlIntegrated change control is a management process for requesting, reviewing, approving, carrying out and controlling changes to the projects deliverables (Wallace 2007). use the Project Change Request Form (Form 2.6) the project can achieve an efficient change control through understanding the source requiring the change, identifying the pros and cons of adapting to the change and preparing plan in implementing the change. With this end, Figure 2.4 illustrates the projects change control process (Westland, 2003).After recognizing the need for change, Configuration Management is then implemented. Configuration management controls the different versions of the project. It focuses specifically on how to implement approved changes as it keeps everyone in the project reading from the same sheet of music. For example, if the product proposal was changed midway through the project. This should be communicated to all the team members through updating the project reports so that the sub-teams responsible for the other parts of the marketing plan can make adjustments. If this is failed to do so, this will lead to enigmatic marketing plan. As such if the product package is targeting the low-end schools but the pricing suggests a premium rate for the fitness equipment, this results to inconsistencies. To avoid this kind of scenario, they must perform this three configuration management step Identify the items that will be controlled, position up the control structure, and assign responsibility for control (Verzuh, 2005, p.302).Project hitchProject closure is the smallest phase of the project but no less than important than the others. This stage is signified by all tasks and specific deliverables, documentation manuals and process procedures are finished and to identify if the project is finally completed Table 2.5 lists a clo sure checklist. When the project is deemed as completed, a close-out meeting is conducted to culminate all the efforts of the team member. The purpose of this meeting is to reach an agreement with the sponsor, in this case with Carr Ltd, to formally close the project. As such, Form 2.10 shows a sample of close-out meeting agenda. However the close-out meeting is not yet the end of the project for final report are yet to be done. This report includes project evaluation and project appraisal. Project evaluation is used to review the project processes and the management of the project. There are two modes of evaluating the project active evaluation is conducted when the project is still in the whole kit and caboodle while post-project evaluation is after the projects turnover to the sponsor. On the other hand, project appraisal assesses the project as a whole for it determines the gains and losses of the project. These assessments are done with the purpose to learn from experience and t o improve future projects. In addition to this in every project undertaken, benefits are always expected on them. In some cases, benefits are achieved after sometime the project has been concluded. In this project however, the benefit has been realized even before the project closure. Carr Ltd gained a new in have pullulate in this diversification project via the agreed upon contracts with the customers (schools) for it signifies the payment terms (tangible benefits).ConclusionProject integration management is often regarded as the key to overall project success for it ties together all areas of project management. Thus this holds the primary focus of a PM. SummaryProject management has come a long way since the formation of the pyramids in Egypt. Nowadays organizations have a renewed interest on this specific field as the number of projects continues to grow and their complexity continues to increase. This can be majorly attributed to the rise of modern project management tools and techniques for projects differ from the ongoing operations of a firm, managing those presents a new set of challenges. With this it resulted to developing tools and techniques that will transmit with these challenges (Verzuh, 2005, p. 1).Accordingly throughout the paper, it presented various project management techniques. In the first case of Bojan Ltd, the use of network diagram was illustrated to stress the importance of completing the project on time. On the other hand, Carr Ltds problem of managing its new initiative was resolved by the project management integration that aims to ensure that all project elements come together at the right time to complete the project successfully. As such, the use of these tools emphasized that project management is a valued skill set in organizations across the spectrum.ReferencesBooksSchwalbe, K., 2008. An Analysis Of Sainsburys Supermarket
An Analysis Of Sainsburys Super merchandiseFounded in 1869 by John James Sainsbury along with his wife Mary Ann in London and then gradually grew to become the largest grocery retailer by 1922. Sainsburys is the UKs disusedest major viands retailer with their first store control surfaceed in 1869. It strives to salvage up with its trusted heritage of quality with best attend tos.PastIn the early 1990s Sainsburys, trade leader so far, lost its seat to Tesco and in 2004 it came down to nary(prenominal) third later(prenominal) Tesco and Asda. The down shine involved many reasons including ever-changing warinesss, lack of innovative strategies, failing to assess the impact of loyalty card game scheme, unhealthy acquisition in Egypt and a misleading food market placeing strategy which failed to communicate the right message to the consumers.PresentSainsburys started to fight back and be sight after Justin King took over the focussing role in early 2004 and came up with a revival strategy under the name of Making Sainsburys bulky Again. The process involved a no. of mergers and acquisitions of small mountain scats in the s outh east England and the Midlands. The new message of Try Something New today went in acceptedity well with the media and the consumer led by the famous celebrity chef Jamie Oliver it encouraged buyers to innovate in their kitchens and make their food interesting.FutureThe supermarket industry has r separatelyed a saturation stratum in the UK. How long can Sainsburys go on opening up new stores at locations such that its stores do not start to cannibalize each other?Using the Ansoff Growth Matrix two forthcoming strategies are suggested for SainsburysOpening up of Sainsburys Travels and Tours convergence evolutionOn the basis of the success voltage in the travel business, Sainsburys might venture into the Travel and Tours business by modality of Product Development as per Ansoff Growth Matrix tool for future strategy selection. Sainsburys has a very high probability of success as measured with the help of SWOT analysis and assessing the keys to success and the critical factors.Sainsburys china grocery DevelopmentSainsburys might opt for the foodstuff development strategy by offering the supermarket business to the land of opportunities China. The move depart be mad after the necessary curse word analysis has been done and communitys SWT has been assessed with Chinese perspective.Sainsburys Strategic Corporate Development History 1990 to 2004Corporations are required to add value by mans of their business. The endeavor is to manage and control the businesses for a long term and sustainable success. The corporate level strategy deals with the choice of the business and the offset and development link to it.Sainsburys enjoyed the position of the leader in the UK supermarket industry up to the early 1990s. It had sustained its image of a name trusted with quality and suffice. British l ike old name calling with some history laughingstock them. The company started to lose its grip in the early nineties due to a number of reasons. There was a transmit in management after the longtime CEO John David Sainsbury retired. He was replaced by David Sainsbury who bought about a change in the management style. Although the times were changing and some of the people in the management thought strongly about launching loyalty card schemes and also favored introduction of non-food items in the stores, two the options were rejected by the freshly management. The biggest rival Tesco had gradually moved up on the market scales and the internal indecisions help it get hold of better deals from suppliers. We will analyze Sainsburys approach in view of Ansoff Growth Matrix perspective. Ansoffs matrix is a tool that helps businesses decide their growth and market growth strategy.Market acutenessThe strategy had been the simple approach of Market Penetration schema. As per Ansoff Mat rix, this can be easily explained as the company keeps on offering the same ingathering into the existing market. From 1993 onwards Sainsburys was unconsciously moving forward on the basis of wait and see policy. Up till now Sainsburys had enjoyed the position with no real threat. It started with price cuts on almost 30 of its labels, three months after came up with Tesco Value Lime. The move affected Sainsburys profit margins.Product DevelopmentThis made the management realize to offer something new to the clients and after Tesco came up with new format stores named Tesco Metro serving the township centers in 1994, Sainsburys responded with announcement of Sainsburys Central format. This approach is interpret as Product Development strategy where a new product is introduced into existing market. The new project offered obtain facilities to the small towns was initiated leading to Country town stores. The stores were formatted keeping in mind the distance the buyers get to to t ravel for their weekly grocery shoppings. The new service enabled the customers to do so without sledding to large, out of town stores. They were of importly planned to be opened I the south east, which has always been Sainsburys strong hold. The 1st store was opened by the end of 1998 in Ongar (Essex). These stores countenance now been standardized as per the unremitting stores and they maintain even trading termsSetbacksThe company fell behind yet again in 1995 when the management failed to realize the importance of loyalty cards schemes and refused to go a orient with launch of any such offer. They had to reconsider their decision 18 months later after Tescos guild card was introduced. In 1996 the company ventured into opening up of Sainsburys Bank. In addition it acquired Texas Homecare for 290M (GBP) in 1996. These expansions had a major effect on the financials and Sainsburys announced first fall in profits in 22 familys.Another reason which affected Sainsburys sales was the perception among the customers that it is more expensive than its rivals. The marketing tests failed to convey the message that Sainsburys offers as good quality and value for money as its rivals. The marketing failed to communicate the required message of low cost and high vale and the company endured the consequences. The year 1996 byword Sainsburys losing its position of market leader to Tesco.Acquisition and DivestmentSainsbury attained 80.1% of share in an Egyptian distribution group SAE. The group provided retailing services in Egypt with 100 stores and almost 2000 employees at the time or acquisition. The decision was criticized by the analyst as it was made during the most testing times of Sainsburys history. The reason behind the decision might have been the success Tesco outside UK. However the meager results shown by the Egyptian business led to the divestment of the share and sale of shares in 2001.The distinguish re-launchIn 1998 the company again went under a ma nagement change and George Bull, the new Chairman took over and decided to re-launch the Sainsburys Brand. The new management targeted to revive Sainsburys corporate identity and started with the launch of a new logo, going for a slightly informal font and new slogan of making life taste better. provide uniforms were redesignedThe company underwent a Business Transformation Program (BTP) after the appointment of Peter Davis who showed significant improvement in the companys turnover and exceeded the targets. The BTP involved a 3.00bn (GBP) get along of the stores, distribution and IT equipment. The distribution setup included construction of fully automated depots which cost 100m (GBP) each and was later criticized by the new management.Sainsburys moved into the current render at Holborn in 2001. The beebread loyalty card scheme was launched in 2002 which replaced the Sainsburys Reward Card.Current Strategic Situation 2004 to dateAt the end of march 2004, new CEO Justin King joi ned the company who came up with a recovery plan for Sainsbury under the banner of Making Sainsburys Great Again. It was a three year recovery plan which was very positively received by the media and the stock market. The strategy involved laying off redundant staff from the head offices and recruiting additional staff for shop floors to increased and improved customer service quality. Sainsburys was having major issues with its stock availability, inventory and supply chain management. The new depot supervise systems were to be implemented and IBM was devoted the deal to upgrade the system.Mergers, Acquisitions and DivestmentsIn 2004 Sainsburys new management under the Making Sainsburys Great Again plan to concentrate on its strong UK customer base, divested the American subsidiary Shaws. It was sold to Albertsons. The no. of convenient stores was increased through an acquisition of 54 Bells Stores chain which was based in the northeastern of England.Another Acquisition took place with purchasing o 114 stores of Jackson Stores based in Yorkshire and the North Midlands. The acquisition took place in November 2004.Another small chain of 6 stores was acquired from SL Shaw lt. in April 2005.New Marketing Strategy Try something new todaySainsburys is at a critical stage at the moment. Sainsburys Supermarkets have at peace(p) through a period of dramatic regression, in which they have been surpassed by rivals Tesco and, more recently, in 2004, Wal-Mart-owned Asda. (Global Market Information Database, 2004). It is not easy for an established and old UK brand to vanish off from the market but the competitors have. While it is rare for major brands to disappear completely from the UK high street, these competitors have acquired share from Sainsburys by way of their commitment to low and attractive prices, whereas Sainsburys has been focusing on its Business Transformation Program and has indulged itself in promoting an image of quality, and value rather than being a ffordableThe afford day UK customers which have a extensive percentage of non British are heavily influenced by the economical changes and are passing through tough times. The message which has been conveyed by the Tesco and Asda was received warmly as it assured them of a combination of quality and assurance along with low price. As a result, Sainsbury is still considered comparatively expensive just because it failed to convey the message through proper marketing.A massive marketing campaign of Try Something New Today was launched in kinfolk 2005, which was designed to make people go off the shopping routine encourage them to be more adventurous in food eating. Under the campaign umbrellas, the spokesperson for the campaign Jamie Oliver encouraged the customers to be. The message conveyed was it supplies quality food as well as the exactly one offering useful ideas to make your food interesting. The aim was to reach and convince all the customers and not only the well off.Sain sburys is testing to respond forcefully to the challenges it faces, however competition in the UK market is becoming progressively intense, and Sainsburys faces a difficult struggle to regain the ground it has lost to rivals that continue to expand aggressivelyThe management has a continuous approach towards work with responsibility. They attempt to provide fresh food and innovate with respect to customers needs. It serves over 18.5 million customers every week. The large stores offer over 30000 products along with complementary Non-Food products e.g. the TU clothing range which has over 1 million transactions every week. Along with other services, an Internet based shopping service has also been made available, keeping in trend with the changing requirements o the customers, to almost 90% of UK households. The company has a chain of stores with 537 supermarkets and 335 convenience stores, hence a total of 872 stores in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, including Hypermarkets ( super large stores- Sainsburys stores- main plus), Sainsburys Central and Sainsburys local (supermarket and local convenient stores format main mission). The company has been eyeing the opportunity of expanding its business outside the UK. Especially the hyper potential in Asia (especially South eastbound Asia and China). By analyzing Tescos huge success in the market outside UK, Sainsburys venture might not be far away.It is listed on the London Stock trade and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Indexhttp//www.j-sainsbury.co.uk/index.asp?pageid=12http//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SainsburysStrategic Direction for the FutureSainsburys has a history of innovation and it continues to strengthen its relationship with its customers and has gone forth with the growth of their convenient store operations, the online offers and the Sainsburys Bank. They have a constant approach towards developing new offers in line with the evolving customers demands resulting in operational growth and profita bility.http//www.j-sainsbury.co.uk/ar08/businessreview/corporateobjectives.shtmlChoosing a Strategy A marketing tool for making the market strategy is the Ansoff Matrix, which gives us strategic choices for obtaining our business and market objectives. It offers four choices which deal with marketing and growth of existing or new products in existing or new markets.AnsoffOn the basis of current scenarios in that respect are two pathways for Sainsburys to opt from, for a sustainable growth and presence for a long time to come.Product Development Strategy Sainsburys has a huge loyal customer base. The suggested new service product through Sainsburys Travel and Tours will provide these customers to utilize yet another trustworthy service by their trusted name.Market Development Strategy Although Sainsburys has not yet ventured into the International market but the step might not be that far away keeping in mind the huge success TESCO has had in the international market. Sainsburys cou ld venture into international expansion keeping in mind the increment and still unsaturated markets of China and Southeast Asia.Product Development Sainsburys Travels and ToursSainsburys can opt for launching Sainsburys Travels and Tours is by choosing the Product Development Strategy and is introducing a new product into existing market. The growing Travel and Tours market will definitely have a positive effect on the Sainsburys portfolio by increasing its profits and hence strengthening its business. Why Product Development? The Sainsburys Travels and Tours will provide the company to excel and achieve its strategic goals on the basisThe supermarket industry has become fairly saturated in the UK and at redeem Sainsburys is eyeing to expand itself in the International market but it will be a while before it actually does. The Travel industry is a growing market and has a huge potential of growth. The new product will benefit the company gain huge profitability margins which are bec oming troublesome to achieve I the supermarket industry. The Sainsburys has a huge loyal customer base which will be utilized for promotions and marketing purpose. The project has a high probability of success given a chance of a fresh new product offered by a supermarket chain.Market DemographicsAlthough year 2009 has seen the worst recession since 1930, there are definite signs that the cycle is now turning.Travel industry has suffered consequences of economic crush but the consumer confidence is indicating escalating progress.UNWTO is expecting a reasonable growth of 5% in 2010.There was an upward trend during the last quarter of 2009 which showed 2% upswing. The development is further strengthen by the Air Transport Data from IATA, which shows passenger calling strength since September 2009Asia is anticipate to show the greatest recovery being less effected by the economic crush (comparatively). Growth is also expected to resume in America and Europe.A large number of countries around the world have shown positive growth in the first two months of 2010.boilersuit the total of tourists arrivals during the first two months of 2010 was 119 million showing 7% improvement as compared to 2009SWOTThe SWOT analysis summarizes the vital strengths and weaknesses of the company. This SWOT analyses the new product line and reviews the opportunities and threats which Sainsburys may faceStrengthsImage differentiation with respect to Brand nameThe customer to employee ratio is lowStaff is highly trained and customer focusedLoyal customer baseAn interesting, diverse and new product offered by a trusted service providerEstablished network of outletsWeaknessesDifficulties related to finding employees with required skills and attitudePresenting the customers with interesting offers on continuous basisLack of experience in the new industryBusiness limited to UK onlyOpportunitiesrapidly growing market all over the worldGrowing number of people with increasing need and desire f or holidaysThe existingUtilizing the existing Nectar database for identifying potential customersThreatsLingering effects of the slump in economyNatural disaster such as he recent Icelandic volcanoes eruption extremely competitive industryKey to successSainsbury has always aimed to be the consumers first choice for food, delivering quality products with great service at a competitive cost. The company is striving to achieve the objective of leading margins with diverse market and delivering strong profits every year. The new product will benefit the company earn huge profitability margins which are becoming hard to achieve in the supermarket industry.Critical IssuesWhat can go wrong? The Sainsburys already has an established huge no. of loyal customers who would be happy to have an option o a different kind of service offered from their trust worthy service provider. The expectation for a stable turnover is based on the fact that it is an established name offering a new product on the basis of its goodwill. How likely it is to retrieve? The expected growth can be effected by increasing inflation rates. The Travel persistence faced a huge blow after 9-11 incident. What are the consequences?Any unforeseen incident like this (God forbid) will have long lasting effects on the companys growth, profitability and future expansions and plans.Competitive favour Nectar Loyalty Card DatabaseThe database can provide an excellent competitive advantage becauseIt will help the management to design the product, offerings, and travel and tour packages as per the preferences. The database can also be utilized to acquire knowledge about customers such asNo. of family membersSpending habitsIncome estimatesPreferences with respect to food etc. holiday routinesMarket Development StrategySainsburys could also opt for the Market Development strategy with offering its existing product of Supermarket and offering it to a new market by venturing into a growing international market such as C hina. China is the promising power in todays business world and its domestic market allows huge potential for international companies with promising growth.Sainsburys is the third largest supermarket name in UK after Tesco, which already has a huge presence outside the UK and Asda which is owned by the industry giant Wal-Mart. The immediate rivals have other sources /markets to benefit from other then UK. But Sainsburys has so far only focused on the UK market and from last two decades its concentration has almost completely been occupied by gaining back the lost market shares from its competitors. For Sainsburys to venture into a new market, a PEST has to be made to know the market better and plan the strategy accordingly.PEST Analysis ChinaPolitical and LegalSince 2001, china has entered into WTO and its market is open or multinationals to trade in. In china, supermarket industry is not considered as a prestigious as some other industries so the government rules and regularities a re not so tough. The government is favoring development in the supermarket industry.SocialThe demographics of china show that population growth rate 0.629% (2008) in which the youth from 0-14 years comprises of 20.1%. The Chinese customers have become more concerned about issues related to health and safety after the 2008 melamine contaminated milk issue. As per the current shopping trends in China, people prefer to buy in person (online buying is almost non-existent especially daily grocery). The families are very small units on average supreme of 4-5 per unit in sub urban areas where as mostly population in the larger cities is singly. Chinese prefer to buy on daily basis, fresh produce as per days requirement.Technology and developmentChina is a vast artless with underdeveloped infrastructure so there will be immediate warehouse setup requirements. Chinese households have a very low trend of keeping refrigerators at home so big weekly supplies trips will take time to adjust in the glossiness.Environmental FactorsThe plastic bags have been recently stopped in china. The govt. is still trying to establish regular and long term procedures for recycling. All these factors will be required to be kept during the planning and project development phase for Sainsburys China.Furthermore we will carry out a SWOT analysis for Sainsburys with respect to its entry in the Chinese market.StrengthsOver a century of supermarket and retail experienceAmbition for growth ascertain from failed International acquisitions as Egypt.WeaknessesCultural differenceExpansion will be slow initiallyOpportunitiesA very large market size wide potential of industry growthGovt. policies favor the IndustryExpansion opportunities in the rural/western parts of ChinaChanging consumer awareness with respect to shopping habitsThreatsImmature marketRivalry to increase immenselyWeak infrastructureUntrained local staffIncreasing prices of raw materialsStrategic RecommendationsBased on the above an alysis Sainsburys should consider a slow and starchy expansion strategy in China for long term results and sustained presence. Initially the stores should be opened in the urban and economically grown regions where customers will more readily adapt to change and new trend. Gradually then, on the basis of acquired knowledge, preferences, culture etc Sainsburys should venture into the suburban and rural areas. Sainsburys should use the critical factors involved in the success of the strategy such asIt should strive to obtain consumers trust by offering good quality products at affordable prices. Health and safety measures should be the first priority so that no incident like the contaminated milk will occur.China is a big country and the company should fully utilize this factor for the locations o the stores. The locality factor should be given priority wile employing the Chinese as trust and ownership has a great value in Chinese culture.China is a growing country and its economic co nditions will affect the pricing of the productsSainsburys should work on differentiating itself from the rivals from day one for developing long tem and healthy relationship with the consumers.Once Sainsburys makes its entry into China market, there is no looking back from the kind of growth and expansion opportunities it may provide.(http//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sainsburys )ConclusionDuring the last decade of 1990s and early 2000s saw Sainsburys going through a very testing time in its history. It lost its no. 1 position to Tesco and then no. 2 to Asda. Time saw Sainsburys make some serious lack of judgments on behalf of management decisions related to adapting to the changing times, acquisitions and divestments. The management made a serious lack of assessment while deciding for bringing out the loyalty card scheme. The profit margins were affected as the companys marketing campaign failed to register with the consumers. The mid 2000 saw Sainsburys coming out again to be a Supermar ket force lead by Justin King. The new campaigns Making Sainsburys Great Again and the companys new slogan of Try Something New Today succeeded in reach the customers positively.Given the market saturation of the industry Sainsburys has been suggested two options for business expansion using Ansoff Growth Matrix tool.Product Development Sainsburys Travels and ToursMarket Development Sainsburys ChinaThe necessary SWOT and PEST analysis tools have been used to assess and measure the factor involved and could affect the growth suggested. The Travels and Tours Industry promises growth based on demographics provided by the WTO and the UK travel forecasts. The loyal customers of Sainsburys would be more the happy to have another product offered by their trustworthy service provider.Sainsburys China will provide an opportunity for immense growth of supermarket industry in a vast and massive population of China. Sainsburys should take a steady approach by starting from the urban areas and slowly expanding in the remaining country while studying and adapting to the new culture and country.

Makeup for Performers---------------------Aging with Grease Makeup. There are a parcel of musical compositions you can use to produce an aging affect, unless I decided to use grease. The grease makeup I used was a skin purportpalate by Kryolan. Before doing whatever makeup techniques I studied the shape and size of mybone structure and my facial features, this is so I knew where to apparition and highlight. The Red Badge of Courage :: essays research papers
The name of this book is The Red Badge of Courage, and it was written by Stephen Crane in 1894. It is about a somatogenetic and emotional pain that a solider of the Civil War might have went through. The soldiers pain comes from all of the horrible things associated with warfare. The main character, Henery Fleming, joins the Union army dreaming of the despairing things he will accomplish. At the beginning of the story, he thought that war was a beautiful thing, he thought that it was not such a Brobdingnagian deal, but has the story develops, he discovers that war is not so great and becomes real unsure of himself. Henry then meets up with his sponsor Jim. Then middle(a) through the book he confronts his cowardice and gains a sense of duty and responsibility. When the novel ends he has conquered his fear., and he is able to prove to everybody that he is really not a coward. Later in the book, Henry meets Wilson, the loud solider, who I think represents the two sides of human nat ure. Wilson is a mean and tough guy that no i likes and then towards the end of the book he finds that he really cares about Henry. While Henry is dealing with all of his emotions that are moving into war, he finds the friend he needs among his comrades at the war.The book Red Badge of Courage has a very deep meaning because it gives great detail about the reverse of war, the physical and emotional side of it. It shows how a young solider of the Civil War would have felt and also it shows all his fears. It also shows with great detail what was war like in that time. This book is not just about war and the fighting, the book gives very important facts about the camp and the other soldiers that Henry Flemmings interacts with. It tells how soldiers buffer down in war and that all of them are heroes at aroundtime in the war. All of the characters in the Red Badge of Courage represent some aspect of man either physically or emotionally.
